Breastfeeding positions

I was one of the lucky ones. I was able to breastfeed to around sixteen months with all three of my boys. With my first child, after the first few days and lots of support from my husband, I found breastfeeding very easy, enjoyable and pain free.

I know that for many of you breastfeeding was a quite a struggle. I have met several mums who although desperate to breastfeed their little ones have been unable to do so. The la leche league provides support for those who might be struggling with breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding positions

Here is a simple diagram of some of the breastfeeding positions.

In reality it often depends on the size of your milk

jugs, boobs, breasts what ever you feel comfortable calling them or how tired you are.  It is much easier to use the football hold if you have larger breasts.  If you are completely knackered which you are often in those early days, the lying down hold tis the best!!

The  most sociable one is the cradle holds as you can be a little more conspicuous when in public.

I think this is the last of our breastfeeding series, but more to come on the bottle feeding.
