Here is a little christmas holiday treat that you can make with the kids (without making too much mess). The fun bit can take as long as your kids want, but it only takes a few minutes to cook in the oven and if there is any left over it is great little pudding.
Cheats Christmas Cookies
Ingredients and method
- Ready rolled sweet short crust pastry
- Raspberry or strawberry jam
- Red and green sprinkles
- Star and christmas tree pastry cutters
Pre-heat your oven to 190 c.
Remove the pastry from the freezer about 10 minutes before you start this activity.
Get out your kids favourite christmassy shape cutters (stars and christmas trees would work well). Let your kids cut out as many pastry shapes as they can from the ready rolled pastry sheet/s.
Left over pastry can be either re-roll and cut more shapes or use it to make decorations for the thier shapes.
Let the kids spread the jam onto their shapes, or cover with sprinkles. Christmas trees could be left bare and sprinkled with icing sugar after they are cooked to make them look snow covered.
Bake for about five minutes. Do watch them carefully as they can brown up very quickly.
Cool and try to stop your kids eating them all at once.
