Comotion in the Ocean is written by Giles Andreae and illustrated by David Wojtowycz.
Giles Andreae has authored many successful children’s books. I love several of his other books, including Rumble in the Jungle, The Lion Who Wanted to Love and Giraffes Can’t Dance. These are favourites for many many children I know. You really can’t go wrong with one of these books.
Commotion in the Ocean
Those familiar with Rumble in the Jungle, will find a similar story format within Commotion in the Ocean. We are introduced the general environment of the ocean and then as the story unfolds we are introduced to different sea creatures and different ocean environments. A colourful cast of sea creatures come alive from the pages of this fabulous book. Like his other works, this is a noisy rhyming tale packed with creatures that are brought to life with bright and accessible illustrations. A different ocean animal is featured on each page. Along with the colourful illustration there is a short poem about the animal.
These books are now so popular that literacy teaching units have been based around them.
Andreae’s works all have a great rhyming pattern to them, and this is another fun book to read aloud to the kids.
