Over at Kiwi Mummy Blogs we were recently contacted by Te Papa Press to see if we would be interested in reviewing a set of My New Zealand Board Books for kids that were hot off the press. I have to say straight up this was no hard chore. These books are absolutely beautiful.
My New Zealand Board Books
These recently released “three cool board books” were the My New Zealand 123 Book (my favourite), the My New Zealand ABC Book and the My New Zealand Colours Book. These are all only $19.99 each and are aimed would make lovely gifts.
With a focus on early maths and literacy skills (numbers, alphabet and colours) and being board books, these beautiful books are aimed at the under threes. However, these books will no doubt be enjoyed and cherished by parents too. They are based around New Zealand art including beautiful and interesting paintings, sculptures, photographs and objects from Te Papa’s collections. It is a lovely way to bring art and culture into the lives of our young children.
The art encapsulated within the books is wide and varied. From the iconic buzzy bee and the Play School toys, Humpty, Big Ted and Manu to the works of Rita Angus, Andrea Eimke and Saskia Leek. Fantastic fun rhyming poetry goes with it too “the peg dolls are in fancy dress. I like the grumpy rock star best…. We can’t eat karaka berries. They are for the kereru bellies.”
How awesome is that we have Te Papa Press in New Zealand? We are so lucky to have this unique museum publisher, creating books about New Zealand’s art, culture and natural world for our tamariki. These are the kind of kids’ books you keep for your children’s children.
