In this post we get to know a little bit more about Simone Rank, a delightful lady who runs the very cool and inspirational business – Yummy Mummy Fitness. Yummy Mummy run great online programmes which provide mums with a way to connect into a community of support while they get in shape. The system provides a really great opportunity to keep you motivated and it doesn’t matter where you live and you don’t need to belong to a gym.
I met Simone last year and got to try out one of the Yummy Mummy Big Shape Ups. I am a very big fan of what her team is doing, it really works. I lost about five kgs, and also went from doing little cardio exercise to being able to run non-stop for over 20 minutes.
Some time ago we share a recipe from Simone and Yummy Mummy Fitness, Gluten free zucchini fritters now we get to hear more about Simone herself.
Interview with Simone Rank from Yummy Mummy Fitness
- Tell us about your family?
I live with my partner and our almost 5 year old son – we have a cat, 2 rabbits and 2 Kune Kune pigs who all love life on our lifestyle block south of Auckland.
- What did you do before you had children?
I was born and grew up in southern Germany. After finishing school at age 19 I left to live in Australia for 4 years, then after meeting my partner, I moved to Auckland. I love travelling and exploring! Anything adventurous – not much has changed since having Maxim really, he just comes everywhere with us now. Work wise I have been a Personal Trainer for the past 10 years – which is how I got into starting YummyMummy Fitness.
- Tell us about what you do now?
I run my business full time which I am absolutely loving!
- What does your working day or week look like?
I start my day at about 8 or 9am, depending on how late I was working for the night before, until I pick Maxim up from kindy. Then I am a mum – with afternoon activities, grocery shopping, dinner prepping, all things mums do. Once he goes to bed I am back on the computer until I am done which is usually around 11 pm but can be as late as 2 am.
- How do you fit working in around your family life?
I have finally got into a really nice rhythm which seems to work for everybody – the past three years have been insane with 14-16hr work days with little time for my family so I am enjoying finally being able to have 4-5 hours a day to spend with my son and my weekends are generally free for family activities too. I couldn’t have done this without the huge support of my partner who does most of our housework – cooking, washing, cleaning etc and Maxim always helps a lot too, he loves to do the vacuuming and feeding the animals. We work as a team every day.
- What is unique about your enterprise?
What makes us unique is that we care. Every mum who comes to us is just like us – busy and wanting something more with the little time she has for herself. We want her to walk away feeling great and having taught her valuable lessons that she will be able to use for the rest of her life. We don’t believe in fads or push any supplements in any way and never will – our program educates and helps to change the lifestyle of each mum so it is quite different to your general ‘gyms’ and ‘fad diets’
- What are your long term ambitions or goals for your enterprise?
To keep growing it, taking on more staff and new challenges – it is only a baby at under 3 years old so we do have a long way to go.
- What is it that inspires you or motivates you?
My biggest inspiration and motivation is my mentor Richard, who has helped me since YummyMummy was a thought in my head. He has cancer and is just incredible! Full of knowledge and wisdom and such a fighter with the most positive attitude. I just want him to be proud of me and the business. I also get hugely motivated by our mums and their lovely feedback and generally seeing them work hard and reaping the rewards, it is a very inspiring environment to be in. There are so many things that have the potential to inspire me every day – it really depends what kind of a day I am having.
