One of our amazing Munch board members Colin Chapman is doing something amazing. Colin is running the highest marathon in the world for Heart Kids! We think this is amazing and obviously want to share the details with you all.
We think it’s amazing how all of this is happening and all to help Heart Kids. Like it says on their post “A heart kid is someone who is born with one or more life threatening heart defects. These can range from a hole in the heart to complex conditions where one half of the heart doesn’t work, or the valves are not formed properly. A lot of heart kids will never get the chance to take part in an adventure like this. Their hearts wouldn’t be able to cope with the pressure or lack of oxygen – they deal with that challenge every day. For many even attending school camp isn’t an option. In addition, sadly around 40 babies a year lose their battle and become heart angels”.
This marathon is in no way easy but when was any marathon easy! Just look at what Colin and his fellow runners have shared about the distances. “The Full Marathon then starts from the Everest Base Camp at the Khumbu Icefall at 5356m altitude, and finishes at Namche Bazaar. The measured distance of the marathon is 42.195 km over rough mountain trails”. To see all of the details about this marathon head to the website for more details.
Now as you know this is all to raise as much money as possible for HeartKids with an aim of $250,000.00. They are so close already but still need help with that final push. If you would like to donate and support Colin then make sure you click this link.
Whilst we are on the subject of hiking we thought we should definitely share our favourite scroggin recipe here at Munch:
- 1 cup mixed nuts (cashews, walnuts, peanuts)
- ½ cup Almonds
- ½ cup sunflower seeds
- ½ cup pumpkin seeds
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup of dark chocolate bits
- Now there’s two ways you can have this scroggin. Firstly you simply just mix all the ingredients together and that’s that. However if you are wanting to mix it up I would recommend placing the nuts, almonds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds in the oven at 160 degrees for 10 minutes. Let them cool and mix all the ingredients together. Super easy and super delicious.
